GREGORY ROBERT POPS OFF IN PARIS

Spring is in bloom with a flash whenever you pass the enigmatic Gregory Robert. A 26-year-old it-kid from the outskirts of Paris, Robert lives la vie en rose. His pinked-out wardrobe makes him a walking-talking blossom, turning heads on the streets and amassing adoring fans on Instagram.

We met Monsieur Robert at W Paris – Opéra, where he took us around the city of lights for afternoon shopping at the Pigalle shop, then to ground zero for Parisian streetwear, before grabbing a snack at Le Dépanneur.

IN THE DRESSING ROOM

The Pigalle shop is a Paris go-to for sneakers, streetwear, and hard-to-find Japanese brands. “They are my family, and one of my favorite brands!” says Robert. The racks are full of wild pieces, and he even found a hot pink fur coat.

Pigalle is the brainchild of designer Stéphane Ashpool, who grew up in Quartier Pigalle, the Paris neighborhood that is the brand’s namesake. Ashpool’s taste for haute athleisure has caught the eyes of editors from Hypebeast to Vogue, giving rivals like Palace and Supreme a run for their money in the streetwear game.

FULL COURT PRESS

After trying on some new threads, we stepped outside to the Pigalle basketball court, what Robert calls “the most beautiful playground of Paris.” The flashy color scheme definitely gave him home court advantage. Decked out with eye-grabbing pastel color blocks, the Pigalle court is equal-parts sports arena and photo studio. Recently, Pigalle teamed with Nike for a NikeLab x Pigalle basketball collection based on Pigalle founder Stéphane Ashpool’s love for the “colors and rivalries” of 90s basketball, be it in the NBA or on the neighborhood pavement.

A POST-GAME TREAT

He’s got game, and an appetite, too. After sinking a few three-pointers, we accompanied Gregory Robert for a snack at Le Dépanneur. “Because I love mayonnaise and they do the best mayonnaise in Paris,” he says with a laugh. Good thing we already worked off the calories. Le Dépanneur is known for its picturesque terrace, making it a perfect spot for a sunset burger. Or if you’re feeling fancy, try the barely seared tuna steak on a bed of couscous with dried fruits and sesame sauce.
